The Center for the Study of Democracy

In 1990 the Center for the Study of Democracy was started as a University of California Irvine Focused Research Program and staffed with an international faculty focused on the study of democracy.  As a member of the Network of Democracy Research Institutes, CSD has connected democratic scholars around the world.  In addition, “the Center hosts research conferences, sponsors faculty research, [publishes a research paper series, and facilitates research and teaching on democratic themes.”

The goal of CSD is “at improving the democratic process in the United States and expanding democracy around the world.”  CSD attempts to raise the awareness of the importance of global democracy, and “strengthen democracy at home and abroad”, by studying “democratizing nations and the expansion of the democratic process in the United States and other western democracies.”
