An
Outcast Plots Return in Zimbabwe

Jonathan
Moyo, the former government’s chief spin doctor once
praised the ruling party led by President Mugabe and often
labeled opposition groups as traitors of Zimbabwe. In a change
of events Mugabe fired Moyo and accused him of coup plotting,
as representing his political aspirations in Zimbabwe. In
an interview at his home, Moyo refused to comment on the accusations
of coup-plotting, but he described the party he served for
five years as aging, undemocratic, and likely to fall apart
in the coming years. Nonetheless, a Jonathan Moyo effort to
return to power through Thursday’s balloting has called
into question his credentials by the ruling party and opposition
members. If Moyo wins here, it would help position him for
the future, however he would have to overcome his former party
propensity for influencing the election process.
