Tobias K. Vogel

Toby Vogel covers foreign relations and justice and home affairs for European Voice, an Economist Group newsweekly in Brussels. Previously, he was a contributing editor of Transitions Online and a writer on Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s daily Newsline. He was educated at the University of Zurich (MA, philosophy, 1995), completed his PhD coursework in politics at the New School for Social Research (1998), and was a Mellon Foundation fellow on security and humanitarian action at City University of New York (2003). He has worked for the Open Society Institute, the International Rescue Committee, and the UN Development Programme, primarily in Kosovo and in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he lived in 1999-2005.

He has written for the Wall Street Journal, the International Herald Tribune, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung und Ha’aretz, among others.

Vogel is a Senior Associate of the Democratization Policy Council in Washington, DC; an Associate of the Council for a Community of Democracies; and a Salzburg Global Fellow.
